Spanish Tip at the Top of the Week #2

January 15, 2017

The h is silent, except in borrowed words (hockey, sushi, etc.) and when preceded by c (ch). Perhaps you know this, and yet still throw in an English “h” sound with words you’re more familiar with in writing than in speech. Pronounce words with h as though the h weren’t there at all, regardless of its position within the word.

Ex.

“onor” (honor)

“carboidrato” (carbohidrato)

“desacer” (deshacer)

“almoada” (almohada)
